Well, since it’s the 7th of the month I’ll take a quick look at the Top 7 teams in NCAA Division 3 hockey. (The NAIA has no hockey league, so their participating colleges and universities play in the ACHA. I’ll be adding ACHA coverage soon).
1. NORWICH CADETS – The Norwich Cadets made the D3 Frozen Four during last year’s playoffs and as you can see they are now at the top of the rankings. Record: 8-0-1
2. OSWEGO STATE LAKERS – The Lakers spent some time in the number 1 spot last season and in a playoff format are content to stay around the top position, knowing full well to pace themselves for the tournament. Record: 10-2-2
3. PLATTSBURGH STATE CARDINALS – SUNY- Plattsburgh is another perennial D3 hockey power and they’re out to eliminate the bitter taste that the end of the 2011 season left in their beaks. Record: 8-2-3
4. CASTLETON STATE SPARTANS – The Spartans just dropped 2 games in a row to the aforementioned Plattsburgh State team, but are hoping to bounce back against Potsdam later today. Record: 11-2
5. RIVER FALLS FALCONS – Fresh off yesterday’s 3-0 shutout of the St John’s Johnnies, the Falcons will wrap up this weekend’s road trip by taking on the Concordia- Moorhead Cobbers at 3pm ET today. Record: 10-2-2
6. ST NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS – The defending champions of D3 hockey remain stuck on 7 wins following yesterday’s 2-2 tie with the St Olaf Oles. Record: 7-3-4
7. AMHERST LORD JEFFS – The Lord Jeffs are coming off their worst loss of the season yesterday at the hands of the Bowdoin Polar Bears by a score of 7-4. They’ll try to rebound today against the Colby White Mules at 3pm ET. Record: 8-2-1
