CINTEOTL – Just as XILONEN was the god of young, tender corn and ILAMATECUHTLI was the deity of old, overripe and dry corn, Cinteotl was the lord of mature corn ripe for the harvest. Their mother was the goddess Tlazolteotl and this three-in- one trio of deities provides an intriguing way of viewing the Christian Trinity and the Hindu Trimurti, to say nothing of Hindu traditions of divine aspects.
In the equivalent of our month of April human blood was dripped on reeds and those reeds were then placed at the doors of the Aztecs as an offering to Cinteotl to ensure a good crop. Cinteotl was considered to be under the protection of the rain god Tlaloc, who is considered the father of the corn trinity in some traditions.
