The Hutchinson Blue Dragons incinerated the Kilgore College Rangers last night by a score of 60-29. Hard to believe it was just a 12-9 Hutchinson lead with 11 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Fireworks went off at the end of the game, with the home crowd hoping to see several more such displays as the season goes on, beginning with next week’s game vs the Independence Pirates. Though that first game was a blowout by Hutch another Jayhawk Conference team, the Butler (KS) Grizzlies, were involved in a very tight matchup. Their rematch with the Navarro College Bulldogs, the team they lost to in the National Championship game last December, went into overtime with Navarro pulling out a 23-16 win.
It was back to blowouts in the 2011 edition of the Beaver Bash with Bemidji State trouncing Minot State 27-0. The Ellsworth Panthers put up a basketball score in an 87-14 win over the APU- Cole Jaguars and the Blinn College Buccaneers, the one-time team of Cam “The Scam” Newton, keelhauled the Fort Scott Greyhounds by a score of 65-18. In the final game of the night the Mesa Thunderbirds crushed AAS 49-2.
