The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats football team has been picked to win the MidAmerica Intercollegiate Athletics Association title in 2011. This would be the sixth year in a row for the Bearcats to win the conference championship, but their first without legendary coach Mel Tjeerdsma, who retired after last season. The Bearcats have won twelve of the last fifteen MIAA titles and carry a record-setting conference winning streak of forty-six games into this upcoming season. Their five consecutive appearances in the D2 Championship Game (snapped last December by Minnesota-Duluth in the semi-finals ) are still fresh in everyone’s mind, too. Here is the complete breakdown from the preaseason poll:
1. NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS
2. WASHBURN ICHABODS
3. CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES
4. MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS
5. PITTSBURG STATE GORILLAS
6. MISSOURI SOUTHERN LIONS
7. EMPORIA STATE HORNETS
8. TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS
9. FORT HAYS TIGERS
10. LINCOLN BLUE TIGERS
