The Hutchinson Blue Dragons football team is going to be among the nation’s best, according to the JCG Dirty Thirty, the first preseason rankings out for the 2011 football season.
The Dirty Thirty has the Blue Dragons at No. 8 in its preseason listing of teams that includes both NJCAA and California-based college football teams.
The Blue Dragons are coming off a third-straight bowl victory, winning the Salt City Bowl for the past two seasons. Hutchinson was 10-2 last season, which was the program’s first 10-win season since 1995 and fourth overall. The 2010 Blue Dragons finished fifth in the final NJCAA national poll, finished second in the Jayhawk Conference, the best finish since 1995, and was Region VI runner-up for the second time in three seasons.
Blue Dragon head coach Rion Rhoades, who begins his fifth season at HCC in 2011, returns five starters on offense and six on defense.
The Blue Dragons begin fall camp on Thursday, Aug. 4 and will open the season on Thursday night, Aug. 25 against Kilgore College at 7 p.m. at Gowans Stadium.
