HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s tennis teams both took another closer to having an opportunity to defend their 2010 South Atlantic Conference Tournament titles on Saturday afternoon with a pair of victories over Catawba College.
Less than a year ago, the LMU men won the South Atlantic Conference regular season outright and the Lincoln Memorial University women’s tennis team took a share of the regular season crown with Tusculum College. Shortly after that, both teams ventured to Rock Hill, South Carolina where they each captured the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament title.
This year the Lady Railsplitters were picked as the preseason favorite to win the league and are currently 10-2 overall and 4-1 in SAC play. Their Railsplitter counterparts are 8-4 overall and also boast a 4-1 league mark following Saturday’s victory over the Indians of Catawba College.
With seven matches remaing on the regular season schedule for both squads, four of which are conference bouts, providing LMU Head Coach Benny Collins and he teams can continue their winning ways, it looks as though the LMU men’s and women’s tennis teams may just get the opportunity to defend their crown from a year ago.
Tuesday the LMU men and women are scheduled to travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee to take on arch-rival Carson-Newman College, while Friday both teams will travel to Brevard, North Carolina to square off against the Tornados of Brevard College.
