HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial Univesity men’s basketball team learned Tuesday afternoon that it has moved up to the no. 6 spot in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
Tuesday’s announcement comes less than a week after the Railsplitters extended their winning streak to 18 games by capturing South Atlantic Conference wins last week over Carson-Newman College (90-69) on the road last Wednesday, and (85-67) over Wingate University in Harrogate on Saturday night.
Now 18-0 on the year and one of two unbeaten teams in NCAA Division II men’s basketball, the Railsplitters have been using their time since Saturday to prepare for Wednesday evening’s home match-up with Tusculum College at eight o’clock in the Tex Turner Arena.
The last time LMU and Tusculum squared off in on January 5th in Greeneville, Tennessee, the Railsplitters came away with an impressive 73-52 win over Jim Boone and the Pioneers. Since that time, the Tusculum men have compiled a 10-10 overall record but are battling for one of the top spots in the South Atlantic Conference race at 7-3.
“LMU’s success this season has been drawing big crowds for the home games and Wednesday evening’s rivalry match-up with the Pioneers is expected to be no different,” said LMU Sports Information Director Rusty Peace. “The Lincoln Memorial University/Tusculum College men’s basketball rivalry is one that goes back nearly as far at the LMU record book does. During the 1929-30 season, J.D. “Swede” Alexander’s team lost both games they played against Tusculum but the Railsplitters have dominated the series 113-42 since that time, including this year’s first meeting in Greeneville.”
The Lincoln Memorial University/Tusculum College double-header is being sponsored locally by First Century Bank in Harrogate and Tazewell, and by Dr. Charles Tompkins, III. Free tickets to the games can be obtained by visiting one of those area locations. Those not able to attend the game can catch all the action on Communicomm Cable channel 20, on the World Wide Web at www.lmurailsplitters.com and on WLMU 91.3 FM beginning at 5:40 p.m. with the women’s pregame coverage.

We could not have asked for a better build up to the World Cup”
I know this comment is just spam, which I normally delete, but this is so funny I almost literally LMAO.
How come nobody really covers these teams?
I think they feel there’s not enough of a following. It’s the usual Catch 22 – they won’t show more games from the lower divisions because they say the teams aren’t well-known enough, but they can’t GET well-known enough if people don’t show them. The internet is becoming a remedy for that and I often provide links to webcasts of the games in the divisions I cover.
Nice layout on your blog and good post! Railsplitters is a great name.
Thanks!
