CUMBERLAND BULLDOGS BASEBALL COACH WOODY HUNT HONORED YET AGAIN

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University baseball coach Woody Hunt continues to add honors to his resumé this month, picking up a pair of prestigious awards from local organizations after Hunt led the Bulldogs to the 2010 NAIA National Championship last June.

The Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce presented Hunt with a special “Man of the Year” award at its 87th Annual Awards Banquet Tuesday night held at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center in Lebanon.

This Friday Hunt will be honored by the Nashville Old Timers Baseball Association with the prestigious “Mr. Baseball” award at the organization’s 73rd Annual Old Timers banquet at the Millennium Maxwell House in Nashville. Former major leaguer and World Series champion Dwight Gooden is scheduled as the guest speaker for the event.

Earlier this month the 30th-year head coach was recognized as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at the American Baseball Coaches Association annual conference at Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville.

Cumberland won its second NAIA national championship last June in Lewiston, Idaho, capping a 58-9 campaign with 29 wins in its last 30 games. The Bulldogs swept through the NAIA World Series, defeating Lee University, 4-3, in the championship. Matt Greener was named the NAIA National Player of the Year and Kris Miller earned World Series MVP honors. Greener, Miller, Sam Kikla, Shawn Schaefer and Troy Frazier were all voted First Team All-Americans and Aaron Wilkerson garnered Second Team All-America accolades.
