Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Hutchinson Community College freshman Jackie Patterson was named the Verizon/Jayhawk Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after stellar performances against Barton and Colby last week.

For the week, Patterson, a 6-foot-1 forward from Frisco, Texas who is the Jayhawk Conference’s leader in field-goal percentage, averaged 19 points per game, shot nearly 70 percent from the field, and had 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 blocked shots per game.

Patterson posted her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds vs. Barton last Thursday.

Then in 22 minutes against Colby on Sunday, Patterson scored 22 points on 10 of 14 shooting with seven rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots despite missing much of the game with foul trouble.

For the season, Patterson is averaging 13.7 points per game, 15.3 in conference play, and is shooting 6.0 percent from the field with 6.7 rebounds per game.

Patterson also won the Jayhawk Conference’s weekly honor back in Week 2. This is also the fourth time that the Lady Dragons have won the conference honor. Alysse Barlow and Britney Nuzum also won the award during the first semester.

Patterson is now eligible for NJCAA National Player of the Week honors. Verizon Wireless is sponsoring all Jayhawk Conference Players of the Week this season.
