With many schools on Christmas break now Balladeer’s Blog will be taking a look at the overall hoops picture in the divisions I cover. Since I’m all about my readers I’ll be starting with an alphabetical look at the teams I get the most e-mail on, then after that I’ll address the Top 25 in each division. This will be a multi-part extravaganza so you’ll want to check back every day this week for each part. 

ACADEMY OF ART URBAN KNIGHTS – MEN – The men’s team is currently 3-5. They’ve played no conference games yet.   The wins came over Upper Iowa, Menlo and Bethany (CA). Their next game is December 29th against Cal Maritime.  WOMEN – The women’s team is currently 2-6. They too have not begun their conference slate yet. Their wins came over Corban and Cal State East Bay. Their next game is December 29th against the University of San Francisco.

ALASKA- ANCHORAGE SEAWOLVES – MEN – The men’s team currently has a record of 8-5. They went 2-1 when they hosted the Great Alaska Shootout. They see action again Dec 30th at Central Washington.  WOMEN – The women’s team is 10-4 with their recent blowout wins over Chaminade 105-30 and 102-43. They play again Jan 1st at Montana State-Billings.  

 ALBANY (GA) STATE GOLDEN RAMS – I call them the Fleeces for short.   MEN – The men’s team is sitting at 2-4, 2-1 in conference play. They next play today against Florida A&M.   WOMEN – The Albany State women’s team is currently sporting a record of 1-4 overall, 1-0 in the conference. The next game they will play is on December 31st against Valdosta State. 


  ALVERNO INFERNO – Alverno is a women’s institution so there IS no men’s team to provide a record on.  The Inferno is 3-6 overall, 2-3 in conference play. The wins came over Bethany Lutheran, Maranatha Baptist and Aurora. The ladies will next see action on December 30th at Marian University.

 ASA AVENGERS – MEN – The men’s team is really tearing up the court and currently hold a record of 8-1, including a scoring orgy victory of 106-73 against Roxbury.  They next play Globe on Dec 21st.  WOMEN – The women’s team is an equally impressive 10-4, including a savage beatdown of CC-Philadelphia by an unbelievable score of 93-32. Their next game is likewise on Dec 21st at Globe.


BLACK HILLS STATE YELLOW JACKETS – MEN – The men’s team is cruising along at a tremendous 12-2 record, 1-0 in conference play.  Their only losses came against Azusa Pacific and in double overtime against Dakota Wesleyan, both on the road.  WOMEN – The women are also kicking butts with a 10-3 record and are likewise 1-0 in the Dakota Athletic Conference. Two of their losses came against opponents from higher division schools.  

CAL MARITIME KEELHAULERS – MEN – The men are currently 3-10 but have not begun conference play yet. Their three wins came against Notre Dame De Namur, Lewis-Clark State and Lewis & Clark College. They next play Dec 29th vs Evangel.  WOMEN – The women are 1-9 at the present time with their one win coming against Cal Tech. They play again Dec 29th vs Judson.

CAL STATE- MONTEREY BAY OTTERS – MEN – The men are 4-3 right now, 2-1 in conference. They defeated Division 1’s Cal Poly Mustangs on Nov 18th. They’re in action again Dec 29th against Cal State-San Bernardino.  WOMEN – The women’s team is currently a perfect 7-0, 3-0 in conference play. They crushed Hawaii Pacific 71-49 and like the men are at CS-SB next.

CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS – MEN – The men’s team is sitting pretty at 11-3 right now. They’ve played in two tournaments so far this season and were the champions of both. They next play Dec 28th against Hayward.   WOMEN – The women’s team  is currently sitting at 10-6. They next play against Butte College on Dec 22nd.   

CUMBERLAND BULLDOGS – MEN – The men’s record is 3-5 right now with the conference slate still ahead of them. The wins came against Fisk, Oakwood and Talladega.   WOMEN – The women’s team is rolling along at 7-3 at this time. They, too have not begun their conference schedule yet. The ladies play next against Indiana Wesleyan on December 30th in the Rosa Stokes Classic.

DODGE CITY CONQUISTADORS – MEN – The men are a smoking hot 11-3 with one win coming in a smackdown of an upper division school, Adams State, by a score of 108-59.  WOMEN – The women’s team is currently sitting at 7-7 and they will next see action in a game against Butler (KS) on January 5th.  

 EASTERN ARIZONA GILA MONSTERS – MEN – The men’s basketball team is 6-8 after losing their last five in a row. They are 1-5 in conference play. They will next take the court against Glendale on January 5th.  WOMEN – The women are now 4-8 with a conference record of 4-2 giving them some confidence going forward. Their next game is December 29th against Snow College.


EAU CLAIRE BLUGOLDS – MEN – The men currently have a 5-3 record with one game postponed due to weather. Their next game is December 29th against Monmouth (IL)   WOMEN – The women’s team is sitting at 5-4 with one postponement as well. They play today against Luther in the Daytona Beach Shootout, where the weather will presumably be much warmer than in Wisconsin.

 ERSKINE FLYING FLEET – MEN – The men are 0-6 at the moment I’m afraid, with two of those losses being in conference play.  If it’s any consolation one loss came to Division 1’s East Carolina.  WOMEN – The women are sitting at 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Both teams next see action January 3rd against Queens.
