LMU RAILSPLITTERS MEN’S BASKETBALL UNBEATEN AS WE GO INTO THE HOLIDAY BREAK

HARROGATE, TN – On Tuesday night in the Railsplitter men’s basketball team’s 96-84 victory over conference opponent Catawba College, Lincoln Memorial University forward D’Mario Curry (Detroit, MI) reached a milestone when he scored a personal best 41 points to push his career total over the 1000 point mark and to set a new Turner Arena single-game scoring record.

Since his first season with the Railsplitters as a sophomore, Curry has been named a two-time First Team All-South Atlantic Conference honoree. While being named All-SAC First Team last season for the second time, Curry helped the Railsplitters to their best season finish (20-9) since joining the ranks of the NCAA and their first South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinal appearance since joining the league several years ago.

As the Railsplitter’s top returning scorer from a year ago, Curry was named a Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference First Team selection this year and was named a Preseason All-American in two different polls prior to the beginning of the 2010-11 season. Since that time, Curry has helped the Railsplitters off to their best season start in school history (9-0) and their first national ranking since joining the NCAA in the early 1990’s. The LMU men’s basketball program most likely received national rankings during the mid 70’s when Jack Jackson’s teams made back-to-back appearances in the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri and possibly again in the late 80’s when All-American’s Nick Sanford and Lawrence Buell both played for LMU however, records from those days are sketchy at best and have yet to be obtained.

Over the first nine games this year, Curry is averaging 18.8 points per game while pulling 12.3 rebounds per night to lead the Railsplitters in both categories. Although this season he has only recorded five double-doubles in nine games, the 6’7″ three-year letter-winner has notched 29 double-doubles for his two and a half year career with 17 games remaining on the regular season schedule.

The Railsplitters now take their undefeated 9-0 mark in to the holiday break and will be idle until January 3, 2011 when they will host non-conference, regional opponent Lees-McRae College at 7:00 p.m. in the Tex Turner Arena.
