WRESTLEMANIA: A QUICK Q AND A WITH CUMBERLAND BULLDOGS WRESTLER NOAH HUNT

The Cumberland Bulldogs wrestling team is ranked 5th in the NAIA poll and one of their wrestlers, Noah Hunt, is ranked at number two (in the 125 class). Six of his teammates have also been ranked. Here are their names along with their Official Balladeer’s Blog Nicknames: Mikey “The Doctor” Davis (because his initials are M.D.), Corey “The Conqueror” Bleaken, “Juggernaut“James Casadaban, “Big Bad” BJ Stewart, Joshua “The Trapper” Chappa and Zeke “Baron Z” Hunt. With the Bulldogs  featuring so prominently in the underappreciated sport of collegiate wrestling the time seemed right to talk with their highest-ranked wrestler and see if he has ever had to fight vampires and werewolves like wrestlers in Mexican horror films always wound up doing.

Why would you say you’re having the kind of year you’re having?  “From my hard work and my determination not to give up.”

What should opponents fear the most from you?  “My aggressiveness.”

What pre-match ritual is your biggest superstition?  “I can’t have anyone fold my warm-up clothes. They must be unfolded.”

If you were the absolute dictator of college wrestling what would you do to raise the sports’ profile?  “Promote it to the public more. Try and get  ESPN and  big-time sports shows to give it the credit it deserves.”

If you were to some day change your name to something like The Rock did, what would your new name be?  “Stewie, and it definitely does not stand for Stewie Griffin. I got called that after a comment I made that was stupid and it stuck.”

What is the most laughably bad movie you’ve ever seen?  “Princess Bride.”

Well, that wraps up another Quick Q & A! I think collegiate wrestling is as visually compelling as tennis and soccer matches I’ve seen so I don’t understand why it doesn’t get more air play. Hopefully that situation will be rectified in the near future. Thank you to Noah Hunt and the great folks at Cumberland University for making this possible!
