“LADY O” AND “SWEET” SAUERS MAKE ALL-CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE TEAM

LANCASTER, Pa. — Two members of the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team were named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) Team when it was announced Wednesday. Eileen O’Reilly (OFFICIAL BALLADEER’S BLOG NICKNAME: LADY O) was named to the First Team, while Valerie Sauers (OFFICIAL BALLADEER’S BLOG NICKNAME: “SWEET” SAUERS) landed on the Second Team.

O’Reilly started all 17 games at forward for F&M, leading the team in points (29) and assists (11).  She scored nine goals in 2010, four stood as the game-winners.  The senior played in every game over the last four years, setting some career marks along the way.  O’Reilly tops the F&M record books in game-winning goals (8) and assists (34). She ranks sixth with 94 points and ninth with 30 career goals. This is her second CC postseason award, earning All-CC Second Team last season.

Sauers is making her second All-CC appearance.  She was given honorable mention her freshmen year, the only freshmen to earn postseason recognition that year. Sauers scored two goals and assisted on two more this season. As a defensive midfielder, Sauers was instrumental in halting opponents’ fast breaks and jumpstarting F&M’s offensive opportunities. She was a consisted force in the Diplomats’ backfield, picking up two defensive saves.  She helped anchor a defense that ranked second in the conference in shutouts (5) and goals against average (1.55).
