NOTEWORTHY RESULTS FROM NOV 6TH’S GAMES

100 Wins For Coach Fem – #3 Saint Xavier Cougars Head Coach Mike Feminis notched his 100th win yesterday as his boys closed out the regular season with a 30-6 win over the 7th-ranked St Francis (IN) Cougars. (Hey, with about 72% of the teams in the NAIA named Cougars it was a pretty safe bet that he’d reach the 100 mark by beating a team with that name) Coach Fem also led his team to their 2nd perfect regular season in a row by going 11-0, led by stars like Anthony “Crop-Man” Kropp, Mike “M Squared” Maher and Tom “Tommy The Linchpin” Lynch.

Perfect Privateers – The Maritime College Privateers clinched the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference title last week and yesterday ended their regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark. They did it on the road against the Gallaudet Bison in Washington, DC, by a score of 21-14. Running Back Jamie “Score-Opoulos” Spanopoulos ran in the winning touchdown with 1:14 left in the game. Now the Privateers just need to wait and see their playoff seeding as the Selection Committee will announce the 32-team NCAA Division 3 Playoff layout next Sunday at 3PM.

Top 25 Upsets – NAIA – #25, the Friends Falcons, fell to the unranked Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes 36-33 to be the only upset in the Top 25 for the NAIA  yesterday. The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference also provided the only near-miss yesterday as well, as the 10th-ranked Ottawa (KS) Braves had to hold on against the Bethany Swedes in a 39-33 Instant Classic. There may be more upsets in the NAIA rankings coming, as the Dakota Athletic Conference teams are playing their multi-team Dacotah Bank DAC Bowl event today.

Top 25 Upsets – NCAA Division 3 – The Washington and Lee Generals stayed perfect in conference play yesterday by toppling the 19th-ranked Hampden-Sydney Tigers by a score of 38-27. The Generals have now won their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference title since 2006.

Top 25 Upsets – NCAA Division 2 – The # 9 team, the Augustana Vikings, fell on the road to the unranked Wayne State (NE) Wildcats 26-14 … The 16th-ranked Colorado Mines Orediggers were defeated by the Chadron State Eagles in a 38-31 Instant Classic … The Shaw Bears continue to specialize in upsetting ranked teams this year, handing the #21 St Augustine’s Falcons a 10-6 loss and did it on the road no less.

Azusa Pacific And Northwestern Oklahoma State Rule The World – Two NAIA teams defeated upper division teams yesterday. The Azusa Pacific Cougars won on the road against NCAA Division 2’s Lincoln (MO) Blue Tigers 59-14. Meanwhile the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers defeated D2’s Panhandle State Aggies 31-17.

“It Isn’t News If A House Isn’t On Fire” Dept – The NAIA’s Top Ranked Sioux Falls Cougars improved to 9-0 with a 49-0 trouncing of the hapless Dordt Defenders. USF is still on a quest to threepeat as National Champs … NCAA Division 3’s #1 team, the Whitewater Warhawks, also won handily, manhandling the Oshkosh Titans by a score of 48-21. D3’s #2 team, the Mt Union Purple Raiders, also remained perfect with a 41-13 win over the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets. The world is watching to see if this will be the 6th straight year that we’ll have a Warhawks vs Purple Raiders matchup in the D3 Championship Game … Last week NCAA Division 2’s Top-Ranked Grand Valley State Lakers fell, but yesterday the new # 1, the UMD Bulldogs, won easily, eviscerating the Crookston Golden Eagles 55-7.

Former CHIPS Star Gets His 219th Win – I’m just kidding of course. Larry Wilcox, the Head Coach for the Benedictine Ravens, got his 219th career victory yesterday with a 28-0 win over the Peru State Bobcats. This ties him for the most wins from a coach at a 4 year college in Kansas history.

They Shoot Football Players, Don’t They? – The Marathon Game Of The Week Award goes to the matchup between the Gettysburg Bullets and the McDaniel Green Terror. The Green Terror won in Triple Overtime 36-30.  A second helping of that award goes to another Triple Overtime classic between the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens and the La Verne Leopards. The Sagehens ruled the coop with a 28-26 victory.

We Went To A Football Game And Half A Basketball Game Broke Out – We’ve got 2 entries for this category today. The 5th-ranked Lindenwood Lions dismantled the Graceland Yellow Jackets 77-33, and the Chicago Maroons mangled the Carnegie – Mellon Tartans 61- 22.

  1. Loved your take on this. You’re the only site I read about the lower divisions cause all the other sites have way too much detail. You give enough to keep us informed but you don’t drown us in details nobody cares about.

  2. Loved the shoutout to the Maritime Privateers! They deserve it. Loved the Score-Opoulis nickname too. You rock!

  3. The Washington and Lee Generals are my new favorite team and I never would have heard of them if it wasn’t for this site!

  8. I love all of this! it’s a whole new world of sports teams! I’d love to play for one of these schools! Thank you so much!

  9. I’m a Bethany grad and I love those Swedes! That game was one of our few highlights this season but we’ll be back next year to contend for a KCAC title, guaranteed!

  10. I laughed so hard at your Larry Wilcox joke I accidentally spit soda on my screen! Love this site and I’m trying to get my son to go play baseball at one of these schools.

    • Thanks for the kind words! Some people don’t know what to make of my odd sense of humor. I hope you son listens to you and goes to one of these schools where they seem to keep sports in perspective.

  11. I love this site. I’m not even a sports fan but you keep it short enough that I don’t get bored. I live fairly close to Azusa Pacific so I might even go there when I graduate.

  12. Really great stuff! I never heard of these teams but you make them sound interesting.
