COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 1st

* HEADLINES *

Langston LionsLANGSTON RULES THE WORLD – Once again an NAIA football team has upset a team from NCAA Division TWO! For newbies to these levels that is like when a 1AA team upsets a 1A team. The LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS played host to D2’s OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES yesterday. The Lions demonstrated how football is played in the NAIA by crushing the Aggies 38-17.

delta stateNUMBER FOUR TAKES A FALL – The NCAA Division Two’s 18th ranked DELTA STATE STATESMEN took on the visiting number 4 UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA LIONS in what is always one of the most hard-fought games in the Gulf South Conference, often called “the SEC of D2”. Coach Todd Cooley navigated his Statesmen to a 33-28 win in an Instant Classic.

Willamette Bearcats helmetNUMBER FIVE GOES DOWN, TOO – Meanwhile in NCAA Division Three, the unranked WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS took it on the road to battle the number 5 team in the nation – the LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Bearcats led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 17-7 at Halftime but after a scoreless 3rd Quarter had to withstand a furious Wildcat comeback attempt. Willamette held on for a 31-28 upset victory. RB Dylan Jones rushed for 166 yds and 3 TD’s in the win.

Culver Stockton WIldcats helmetTAKING DOWN NUMBER SEVEN – The CULVER- STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS traveled to face an organized Blackout at the 7th ranked BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. This catfight was bitter and fierce but in the end Head Coach Jeff Duvendeck led his CSC squad to a magnificent and masterful 38-24 victory. This was the second loss in a row for the formerly number 2 Baker University.  

Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie WolvesMORE TOP TWENTY-FIVE UPSETS – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES welcomed the number 19 DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves absolutely smothered the usually potent Tiger offense, especially on the ground, limiting DWU to just FORTY-SIX yards rushing. Nebraska Wesleyan won impressively 24-7.  

Morningside MustangsTOP TEAMS ROLLING -The (1) MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS trashed the visiting CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS 44-21     ###      Meanwhile the (2) CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS annihilated the MONTANA STATE- NORTHERN LIGHTS 55-13 in their own house     ###      And the (4) FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES totaled the visiting BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS by a similar 55-14 score.   

Menlo Oaks helmetROAD WARRIORS – The MENLO COLLEGE OAKS traveled to face the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM and handled them authoritatively in a 52-24 win     ###      And the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS smacked down the homestanding TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS to the tune of 34-8.  

Webber International helmetUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS won a 28-21 game for the ages against the visiting SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE     ###      And the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES fell to the homestanding UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA WESTERN BULLDOGS by a final score of 30-27.  

Pikeville BearsBEAR NECESSITIES – The UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS welcomed the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS on Saturday. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 14-0 Halftime lead for the Bears. In the 3rd Quarter the Knights made it a 14-14 game but Pikeville raced ahead to win the game 28-17 in an action-packed 4th Quarter. QB Sani Warren threw for 181 yds and 1 TD in the win.  

HELMETCampbellsville_KYTHE FIRST PRIORITY IS TO WIN – The CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS made their case for joining the Top Twenty-Five in the next poll. They were on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS, who were marking First Priority Day. The Tigers tore the Patriots limb from limb, with the final score being 58-12.

Briar Cliff University helmetCHARGING THEIR WAY TO VICTORY – The BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS traveled to do battle with the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS yesterday. The game was one for the time capsule with both squads deserving to win. The Chargers went back home with the victory by a score of 27-21.

missouri baptist helmetHOMECOMING – The MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS are still comparative newcomers to gridiron action but thrilled their Homecoming spectators with a 34-10 victory over the HASKELL INDIAN NATIONS UNIVERSITY INDIANS     ###      And the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN ruined Homecoming for the OLIVET NAZARENE TIGERS, sneaking past them 21-13.  

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Minnesota State MavericksTOP FIVE TEAMS TRIUMPHANT – The top-ranked MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS survived a tough 27-14 game against the visiting (14) SIOUX FALLS COUGARS     ###      The (2) DULUTH BULLDOGS eviscerated the CROOKSTON GOLDEN EAGLES 77-3 in their own house     ###      Meanwhile the (3) FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS won a 66-56 shootout with the LAKE ERIE STORM     ###      And the (5) LENOIR-RHYNE BEARS notched a 35-32 road win over the (11) CARSON-NEWMAN EAGLES.  

Bentley Falcons helmetHOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON? – The Marathon Game of the Week distinction goes to the clash between the BENTLEY UNIVERSITY FALCONS and their hosts, the ASSUMPTION COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS. A 10-7 Falcon lead at the break became a 17-17 end-of-game tie to force OT. In the THIRD OVERTIME Bentley U shut out the Greyhounds and got a Touchdown to win 30-24.    

Johnson C SmithGOLDEN BULLS ON TOP – Head Coach Steven Aycock’s  JOHNSON C SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS hosted the SAINT AUGUSTINE’S UNIVERSITY FALCONS in what turned out to be one  of the greatest games of the weekend! The Golden Bulls snuck past the Falcons by a final score of just 14-10.

Walsh University Cavaliers helmetCAVALIERS IN A ROAD THRILLER – The WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS found themselves on the road against the NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The Cavaliers decided to make things interesting by lulling the Wildcats into a false sense of security with a 24-6 lead by the 4th Quarter. Walsh scored 21 points from there to win the game 27-24.  

Urbana Blue KnightsEND OF THE LOSING STREAK – The URBANA UNIVERSITY BLUE KNIGHTS hosted the MALONE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS on Saturday and put a stop to their 7-game losing streak. Head Coach David Taynor had his team focused on both sides of the ball and they dominated Malone through all four Quarters, winning by a final tally of Blue Knights 35  Pioneers 16.  

Western State Mountaineers helmetONE POINT WONDERS – The WESTERN STATE MOUNTAINEERS took it on the road against the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS and prevailed by a score of 27-26     ###      And the (22) AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS eked out a 19-18 victory over their guests, the WESTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY WOLVES.  

Minnesota_St-MoorheadVARYING DEGREES OF BLOWOUTS – The MINNESOTA STATE- MOORHEAD DRAGONS scorched and torched the visiting MINOT STATE BEAVERS. The final tally in this laugher was Dragons 52  Beavers 7.     ###      And the HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON stampeded the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA SAVAGE STORM to the tune of 51-6.  

South Dakota M&TFOUR QUARTERS WEREN’T ENOUGH – The game between the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS and the homestanding DIXIE STATE RED STORM stood at 34-34 to end Regulation. Coach Stacy Collins’  Hardrockers scored 7 points in Overtime, then a muffed PAT attempt by the Red Storm gave his team the 41-40 triumph.

Quincy Hawks helmetUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The QUINCY UNIVERSITY HAWKS took the field against their guests, the MISSOURI S&T MINERS, and managed a thrilling 20-13 victory     ###      And the ST CLOUD STATE HUSKIES survived a 30-27 visit from the BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS.

Indianapolis Greyhounds helmetGETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – On Thursday night the (17) UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS won a 36-33 TRIPLE OVERTIME game against the ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE PUMAS     ###      Meanwhile the (21) VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS won a 24-17 road game with the WEST ALABAMA TIGERS     ###      And the CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES trounced the visiting WEST LIBERTY STATE HILLTOPPERS 42-13.  

* NCCAA *

North Greenville helmet NEWCRUSADE IN THE CAROLINAS – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS, the number one NCCAA team in Balladeer’s Blog’s unofficial poll, hosted the WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. After 4 gripping Quarters of football the Crusaders sent the Bulldogs home wincing from a 24-14 loss.

Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers helmetNAILBITER FOR KWC – The KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS played host to the LIMESTONE COLLEGE SAINTS in what turned out to be a game for the time capsule. When all the dust had settled in this gridiron epic the Panthers had prevailed by a final score of 43-41. 

Texas A&M Commerce LionsHANGING NINETY-ONE – The TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS redefined the term blowout against the visiting MCMURRY UNIVERSITY WAR HAWKS on Saturday. The Lions fell just 9 points short of the hundred necessary for a BASKETBALL TEAM to enter my Century Club for the week. TAMC embarrassed the War Hawks in a NINETY-ONE to THIRTEEN laugher.  

Trinity International helmetTHRENODY – The TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS welcomed the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS yesterday. Appropriate in a game between two schools with “Trinity” in their names the Trojans tripled- up on the Lions, ultimately winning this game in a SIXTY-THREE to TWENTY-ONE blowout.

southwestern assemblies of god helmetSAGU, SAY ME – Yes, it’s a reference to the song Say You, Say Me. The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS took it on the road to face the BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS. Things seemed tight at first but SAGU ultimately took charge in the game and won by a score of 28-7.    

Viriginia State TrojansVARYING DEGREES OF BEATDOWNS – The VIRGINIA STATE TROJANS played host to the NCCAA’s CHOWAN UNIVERSITY HAWKS and proceeded to make them rethink their lives, decimating them by a final score of 40-7     ###      And the WEST GEORGIA WOLVES pummeled the visiting MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS to the tune of 55-14.  

Greenville College PanthersTRADITIONAL POWERS ROLLING – The GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS tripled- up on the homestanding WESTMINSTER (MO) BLUE JAYS, routing them 42-14     ###      And the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES clobbered Chris Douglas’ MACMURRAY HIGHLANDERS by a score of 49-13.  

Georgetown (KY) TigersKENTUCKY / VIRGINIA BORDER – The GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS traveled to face the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS in nearby Virginia. The Rambling Rams put up more of a fight against the Tigers than they anticipated but ultimately Georgetown prevailed 37-20 in this border battle.

* USCAA *

NNAS_VABUILDING FOR NEXT SEASON – The NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS know this season may be a lost cause but they are staying resilient and laying the foundation for more success next year. Yesterday they were tied with the visiting ALFRED STATE PIONEERS 20-20 at Halftime then had to come from behind in the 4th Quarter to win 39-34. QB Deon Lavender passed for 110 yds and 3 TD’s for the Builders.  

Iowa Wesleyan CollegeIWC ON THE ROAD – The IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE TIGERS are the number 1 team in the USCAA in Balladeer’s Blog’s unofficial poll. The Tigers traveled to face the EUREKA COLLEGE RED DEVILS and trailed them 14-0 in the 1st Quarter. By Halftime things were knotted up 14-14 but in the 3rd Quarter the Tigers began to take control, ultimately winning 36-28. QB Caleb Huss passed for 285 yds and 3 TD’s for IWC.    

Alderson Broaddus Battlers helmetBATTLING WITH DRAGONS – The ALDERSON BROADDUS UNIVERSITY BATTLERS welcomed the VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG DRAGONS to Philippi, WV yesterday. The Dragons never knew what hit them as the Battlers proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate them to the tune of 62-21.

Ave Maria helmetAVE MAREEEEEAAAA – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES faced the EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS in the Tigers’ den. The Gyrenes (How can you not love that name?) were in charge throughout most of the game, dominating on both sides of the ball and ultimately winning by a final score of 30-7.  

Rowan ProfsSCHOOLING THE KNIGHTS – The ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS did battle with the visiting SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS (who I still say should change their name to the Danites). A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Profs became a 16-6 Rowan edge at Halftime. From there Head Coach Jay Accorsi’s Profs went on to win 25-6.  

* NCAA DIVISION THREE *

St Thomas University TommiesTOP TWENTY-FIVE UPSETS – In addition to Willamette over Linfield the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT THOMAS TOMMIES eked out a 35-32 upset of the visiting (18) CONCORDIA- MOORHEAD COBBERS     ###      Meanwhile the OSHKOSH TITANS toppled the homestanding (20) STEVENS POINT POINTERS 21-7     ###      And the BRIDGEWATER EAGLES hammered the (22) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY TIGERS 34-9.  

Whitewater Warhawks helmet newTOP TEAMS TRIUMPHANT – The (1) UW-WHITEWATER WARHAWKS defeated the (16) PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS 17-7 in their own house     ###      The (2) MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS topped the HARDIN-SIMMONS COWBOYS 41-28     ###      Meanwhile the (3) MT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS crushed the OTTERBEIN CARDINALS 66-7     ###      And the (4) WESLEY WOLVERINES maimed the COLLEGE OF FAITH MIGHTY BELIEVERS 62-0.  

Millsaps_MSGETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – On Friday night the MILLSAPS COLLEGE MAJORS traveled to do battle with the BERRY COLLEGE VIKINGS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Majors grabbed a 9-3 lead by Halftime. The 4th Quarter started with the Vikings on top 10-9 but Millsaps came back to win 15-10. QB Zak Thrasher threw for 167 yds and 1 TD for the Majors.    

Salve Regina Seahawks helmetUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS welcomed the MAINE MARITIME MARINERS. The Seahawks led 8-0 in the 1st Quarter but trailed 11-8 by the break. In the 3rd Quarter SRU retook the lead 15-11 and after a furious 4th the final result was a 21-19 win for Salve Regina. RB Sam Pascale rushed for 172 yds and 2 TD’s.  

Amherst Lord JeffsWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS were on the road against the TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS on Saturday. A 6-0 1st Quarter lead for the Bantams held up all the way to the 4th Quarter, when the Lord Jeffs came from behind to win the game 7-6. QB Max Lippe passed for 102 yds and 1 TD in the victory.  

Curry ColonelsHOW MUCH DEFENSE IS TOO MUCH? – The CURRY COLLEGE COLONELS and the visiting WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS unbelievably played all the way through 4 Quarters with no points scored. Seriously. Regulation ended in a 0-0 tie like it was a hockey game. The Colonels got off the schneid for 2014 by scoring 7 points in the Overtime session, then shutting out the Golden Bears for a 7-0 OT victory.    

HELMETTUFTSALL-NAME GAMES – The TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS welcomed the visiting COLBY COLLEGE WHITE MULES to Ellis Oval to lead off this category. The Jumbos led 14-0 in the 1st Quarter enroute to a 28-7 blowout win.     ###      While the EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE WASPS logged a 36-9 road beatdown of the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS.

Concordia Chicago Cougars helmetCOMEBACK KIDS – The CONCORDIA- CHICAGO COUGARS had traveled to Vago Field to do battle with the AURORA UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. The Cougars trailed 3-0 in the 1st Quarter and 13-7 at Halftime. In the 4th Quarter Concordia put up 7 more points for a 14-13 come-from-behind win. RB Jakari Cammon rushed for 211 yards and both Touchdowns for the Cougars.  

Pacific Boxers helmetBOXERS GAME ISN’T BRIEF – The PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS invaded Griswold Field, the home of the LEWIS & CLARK COLLEGE PIONEERS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Boxers became a 21-14 advantage at the break. The 3rd Quarter ended at 28-all and Regulation ended with a 42-42 score. In Overtime Pacific shut out the Pioneers then scored a Touchdown to win the game 48-42.

Claremont Mudd Scripps CollegeSTAG PARTY – The CLAREMONT-MUDD- SCRIPPS STAGS battled the visiting CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN on Saturday. The Stags were in charge at first, leading 9-0 and 23-13 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters respectively. The Kingsmen pulled to within 23-20 to end the 3rd but CMS emerged with a 37-30 victory at game’s end. QB Trey Reynolds passed for 234 yds and 2 TD’s for the Stags.  

* NJCAA *

Iowa Western CollegeEASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The top-ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS logged a 23-5 road win over the FORT SCOTT GREYHOUNDS     ###      Meanwhile the number 2 EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS doubled up on the (5) MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST BULLDOGS 42-21     ###      And the 3rd ranked TRINITY VALLEY CARDINALS won a 55-35 battle with the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS. 

Scottsdale_CC_AZCLASH OF RANKED TEAMS – The (4) SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES hosted the (6) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS. The reigning Southwest Football Conference champions survived a nerve-wracking 43-42 game for the ages. Fighting Artichokes QB Michael Sanders passed for FIVE HUNDRED EIGHTY-TWO yards and 5 Touchdowns in the win.  

Hutchinson Blue DragonsHUTCH BOUNCES BACK – The (7) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS recovered from their 1st loss of the season with a victory over the homestanding ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS. The Blue Dragons led just 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but held a 31-0 advantage at Halftime. From there Hutch improved to 9-1 with a 38-7 triumph. RB Travis Custis rushed for 201 yards and a Touchdown for the Blue Dragons.    

ASA CollegeAVENGERS ON THE ROAD – The ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS made the long trip south to take on the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. ASA College Head Coach Dennis Orlando expertly navigated the Avengers to a very dominant FORTY-FOUR to THIRTEEN beatdown of the Hurricanes.  

Tyler Apaches helmetSHOOTOUT IN TEXAS – Speaking of the Southwest Football Conference, the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES did battle with their Lone Star State rivals, the homestanding NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS. This game was an all-out offensive orgy and in the end the Apaches went back home boasting a 70-52 victory.

Pima AztecsWORKING OVERTIME – The PIMA COLLEGE AZTECS notched a road win against the EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE GILA MONSTERS. It took Overtime but the Aztecs prevailed 21-20.     ###      And the ROCHESTER TECH YELLOW JACKETS hosted the DAKOTA COLLEGE OF BOTTINEAU LUMBERJACKS and won a 24-21 Overtime tussle with them.

Garden City BroncbustersUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS took it on the road against the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS and won a 13-7 nailbiter     ###      And the ERIE COLLEGE KATS triumphed in a 22-19 road game at the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. 

* CCCAA *

American River College BeaversTOP TEAMS TRIUMPHANT – The top ranked AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS won a tight 31-22 road game against the SIERRA WOLVERINES     ### Meanwhile the number 2 COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS obliterated the visiting FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS to the tune of 63-10     ###      And the 3rd ranked RIVERSIDE COLLEGE TIGERS visited the number 4 LONG BEACH VIKINGS and won a 27-21 Instant Classic.   

Chabot CollegeCOMEBACK ON THE ROAD – The CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS traveled to face the MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES. The Gladiators trailed 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 21-0 at Halftime but came roaring back in the 2nd Half. The Pirate lead stood at 28-14 to end the 3rd Quarter and Chabot College tied the game at 28-all in the 4th to force Overtime. In the extra session the Gladiators put up 7 points then shut out Modesto for a 35-28 victory. 

Golden West College RustlersRUSTLING THE COMETS – The GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS took the field against the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS. A 14-6 1st Quarter edge for the Rustlers became a 20-13 difference by Halftime. Ultimately Golden West College won the game by a final score of 33-19. QB Chris d’Entremont had another big game, throwing for 305 yds and 4 TD’s.
