COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 20th

Marian Knights helmet newNUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS went from being the NAIA’s National Champions a couple years back to once again being an afterthought. Yesterday, determined to make a statement, they traveled to face the current champions – the top ranked GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS and led 10-0 after the 1st Quarter. The defending champs fought back to make it a 17-16 game by Halftime but the Knights added 14 points in the 3rd Quarter while a 4th Quarter Safety represented the only points the Vikings put on the board in the 2nd Half. QB Hayden Northern threw for a career-high 319 yards and 3 Touchdowns in this 31-18 shocker.    

Montclair_St_NJMONTCLAIR STATE RULES THE WORLD – NCAA Division 3’s MONTCLAIR STATE RED HAWKS welcomed Division TWO’s LINCOLN (PA) LIONS to Sprague Field yesterday. The Red Hawks had the Lions a bit worried when the 1st Quarter ended with a 7-7 tie and kept up the scare, leading the higher division team 21-14 at the break. In the 3rd Quarter Coach Rick Giancola’s Montclair State team put up 6 more points and, following a scoreless 4th Quarter, left the final score Red Hawks 27  Lions 14.    

Limestone College Saints helmetVICTORY NUMBER ONE FOR LIMESTONE – NCAA Division 2’s LIMESTONE COLLEGE SAINTS, coached by Bobby James, are in just their first year of playing intercollegiate football but notched their first win in program history with game three yesterday! The Saints welcomed the COLLEGE OF FAITH MIGHTY BELIEVERS and utterly annihilated them. The Limestone offense and defense had their way all afternoon with the Saints leading 21-0 by Halftime enroute to a FORTY-FIVE to NOTHING victory.  

River Falls Falcons helmetFALLING TO RIVER FALLS – NCAA Division Three’s UW-RIVER FALLS FALCONS were on the road against Division TWO’s SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS yesterday. Renaissance athlete Ryan Kusilek, the Falcons QB who also kicks for his team, was operating on all cylinders in the game, matching the Hardrockers blow for blow. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became 14-14 by Halftime, then a 28-21 3rd Quarter advantage for UW-River Falls. In the 4th Quarter the Falcons extended their lead even more, toppling the higher division team 43-28.

Union Bulldogs helmetBATTLE FOR THE BRASS LANTERN – This trophy game between the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS and the visiting 11th ranked UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS was an Instant Classic! Union’s 1st year Head Coach Zak Willis didn’t permit his team to let up in this first night game in Bulldogs history since 1931. Leading the Patriots 28-21 with 3:05 left to play, Union watched with horror as UC made it 28-27 with 1:18 on the clock. Doug Jeter thwarted the Patriots’ 2-point conversion attempt, preserving the 28-27 victory for his team!  

Bethany Swedes“FORGET IT, JAKE. IT’S UMPHREYVILLE” –  The unranked BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES took it on the road and toppled the number 16 OTTAWA UNIVERSITY BRAVES, their first win over Ottawa U since 2006. Led by QB Jake Umphreyville (See what I did there?) the Swedes turned a 10-7 1st Quarter hole into a 21-10 Halftime advantage. That became 31-17 in the 3rd Quarter and ended with a 34-24 win for Bethany College, who improve to 2-1.   

Sterling helmetTHE WARRIORS CAME OUT TO PLA-AAAAYYY! – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS traveled to take on the 24th ranked FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS yesterday. Sterling RB Antonio Bray was the offensive standout for his team with 179 rushing yards and 305 all-purpose yards. The Warriors led 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 28-14 at the break. A 34-14 Sterling lead to start the 4th Quarter became 36-20 after the rare situation of a Falcons Touchdown followed by a muffed PAT that the Warriors returned for 2 points of their own. From there Sterling College had to dig in and weather a furious Friends University comeback attempt to win the game 36-33.     

Robert Morris (IL)OTHER TOP 25 UPSETS – The unranked ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES hosted the (10) SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. QB John Rhode led the Eagles in coming back from a 10-3 Halftime deficit and a 24-10 3rd Quarter hole. RMU exploded for 17 points in the 4th Quarter while shutting out the Cougars, earning a 27-24 upset win!     ###      And the (18) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS surprised the (15) DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS 35-7 in their own house!    

Morningside MustangsRANKED TEAMS GETTING IT DONE – The (2) MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS are sure to be the new number 1 team on Monday after their SEVENTY-TWO to TWO evisceration of the hapless DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS     ###      The (3) BAKER WILDCATS won a 24-14 game at the EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS     ###      The (4) TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS hammered the homestanding UNIVERSITY OF ST MARY SPIRES 35-14     ###      And the (17) BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS won a 23-17 game for the ages at the CENTRAL METHODIST EAGLES.    

Missouri Valley CollegeWHEN RANKED  TEAMS COLLIDE – The number 13 MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS welcomed the 22nd ranked PERU STATE BOBCATS yesterday. QB Bruce Reyes led the Vikings to the win in their first conference game of the season as he went 15 of 29 for 205 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Missouri Valley College led 3-0 in the 1st Quarter and 10-0 at Halftime on their way to a TWENTY-SEVEN to NOTHING shutout of the Bobcats.    

Point University good helmetOTHER SHUTOUTS – The POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS were hosting the NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINEERS and put a big smile on the face of their Head Coach David Rocker. The Skyhawks led by a score of 24-0 by the break and kept up the pace on both sides of the ball in the 2nd Half for a FORTY-EIGHT to NOTHING win!     ###      And the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS continued to impress under Marty Mathis, opening conference play with a 13-0 shutout of the visiting MCPHERSON UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS.  

Valdosta State BlazersFIRE STILL BURNING – Just one week after the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE – in their very first year of intercollegiate football – recorded their first win ever they also notched their first back-to- back wins in program history! The Fire are now 2-1 after yesterday’s FIFTY-NINE to SIXTEEN rout of the homestanding CONCORDIA (AL) COLLEGE HORNETS. Head Coach Keith Barefield’s team got 2 defensive scores plus a special teams score in this explosive performance!  

Faulkner Eagles helmetWORKING OVERTIME – 4 Quarters weren’t enough for the (6) FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES and the homestanding REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES. Faulkner QB Terrell Robinson led his team to a 4-0 record in this action-packed shootout yesterday. Reinhardt is still a relative newcomer to gridiron action and this marked the first Overtime affair in the program’s history. The teams kept exchanging score for score throughout the game and Regulation ended in a 49-49 tie. In OT RU managed a Field Goal but Faulkner’s Jazeri Peterson caught a TD pass from Robinson for a 55-52 triumph!

Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie WolvesGO GOLD GAME – The Go Gold Game for Pediatric Cancer Awareness was played this year between the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES and the host team – the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. Prairie Wolves QB Tyler Rath brought his team back from being down 10-0 in the 1st Quarter to 10-7 before the frame ended, then kept pace with the Chargers for a 13-10 Halftime deficit. Briar Cliff led 20-17 to end the 3rd Quarter but Nebraska Weslyan exploded in the 4th for 21 points, resulting in a 38-28 victory.  

st francis in helmetRUINED HOMECOMINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS were the Homecoming opponent for the SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES on Saturday. The Cougars rained on the SAU festivities by defeating the Fighting Bees 27-13.     ###      And the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS took it on the road to face the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS on their Homecoming Weekend. The Saints won a much tighter game – a 40-37 gridiron epic. 

Jamestown College JimmiesDOUBLING UP ON THE WARRIORS – The UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES did battle with North Star Athletic Association newcomers the WALDORF COLLEGE WARRIORS. The homestanding Jimmies got an 81 yard Touchdown run out of Chris Johnson as their most dramatic play in a 1st Quarter which saw them seize a 20-10 lead. That became 34-10 at the Half and the Warriors were playing catchup the rest of the night. In the end the Jimmies won by a score of 40-20.  

* NCCAA *

Azusa Pacific CougarsCOMBINED ASSAULT – With QB Chad Jeffries leading the air attack and RB Terrell Watson heading the ground assault the defending champions of NCCAA football – the AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS – hosted the SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY CLAN. The Cougars led 23-3 by Halftime but by the end of the 3rd Quarter led by just 23-17. APU added 9 points in the 4th Quarter to the 7 from the Clan to win 32-24.    

Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers helmetWE CAN SQUARE YOUR SCORE – The KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS ended their 17-game losing streak in style last night on the road against the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS. WR Keelan Cole had 133 receiving yards from the THREE Quarterbacks that the Panthers used in the game. After a scoreless 1st Quarter Kentucky Wesleyan led 14-0 at Halftime then added 14 and 21 points respectively in the 3rd and 4th Quarters. The Lions snuck onto the scoreboard with a 4th Quarter TD, making the final score Panthers 49  Lions 7.

North Greenville Crusaders“GRAVELY HE AIMED AT THE GOALPOST” – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS traveled to face the TUSCULUM COLLEGE PIONEERS yesterday. The teams were tied at 7-7 to end the 1st Quarter but by the Half the Crusaders held a 21-14 advantage. Mounting a frenzied comeback in the 2nd Half the Pioneers tied the game up at 35-35 in the 4th Quarter. Late in that closing act North Greenville Kicker Justin Gravely connected with a 34 yard Field Goal to win the game for the Crusaders 38-35.  

Kentucky Christian UBLACK AND BLUE GRASS STATE – The KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS played host to the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS yesterday. The Rambling Rams led the Knights 10-0 after 1 Quarter of play but from there KCU turned it on offensively, leading 33-10 by the Half. The 3rd Quarter saw the Knights throw on an additional 10 points to the 6 added by Bluefield College. A scoreless 4th Quarter left the final score at Knights 43  Rambling Rams 16. RB Jamuel Jones had 3 TD’s for KCU.      

Warner Memorial U Royals helmetBATTLE ROYAL – The WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF FAITH GLORY EAGLES (not to be confused with the College of Faith, a different institution), who are in their first-ever year of intercollegiate football. The Royals led 14-0 after 1 Quarter of play and early in the 2nd went up 16-6 following a Glory Eagles Touchdown followed by a blocked PAT returned by Warner University for 2 points of their own. The Royals continued to impress the rest of the way and ultimately won by a score of 30-20.  

Central Dutch helmetDON’T THE DUTCH BEAT THAT? – Yes, it’s a lame twist on the old saying “Don’t that beat the Dutch?” Yesterday the CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH took the field against the visiting MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. Schipper Stadium was the spot for one of the most dominant performances in Dutch football history. Central College led 37-0 in the 1st Quarter and never looked back. The Dutch improved to 2-1 in 2014 with this SIXTY-FIVE to TWELVE slaughter.  

* USCAA *

Iowa Wesleyan CollegeCATFIGHT IN BIG CAT STADIUM – The IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE TIGERS took it on the road to Big Cat Stadium, the home of the UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT MORRIS COUGARS. The defense for the Tigers was clicking and kept the Cougars off the scoreboard for 3 full Quarters. Meanwhile the IWC offense scored 7 points in the 1st Quarter and 6 points in the 3rd to win the game even with the TD Minnesota- Morris put up in the 4th. QB Caleb McClaren threw for 170 yards in the 13-7 win. 

Husson Eagles helmetWINKIN, BLINKIN AND NOD – The Winkin Complex in Bangor, ME was rocking on Saturday to the game between the home team – the HUSSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES – and the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS. By Halftime the Pioneers had turned a 7-0 1st Quarter deficit into just a 14-13 one. Next the Eagles watched their 21-13 lead after 3 Quarters vanish as well when Alfred State got a late Touchdown and a 2-point conversion to tie the game at 28-28 to end Regulation. In Overtime Husson shut out the Pioneers then got a Touchdown to win 34-28. QB Joe Seccareccia threw for 251 yards and 2 TD’s in the victory.  

Catholic Cardinals helmetCOLLEGE OF CARDINALS – The CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY CARDINALS welcomed the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (formerly the Shipbuilders). A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 17-7 Halftime lead for the Cardinals and a 31-17 advantage after the 3rd Quarter was through. In the 4th the Builders made it a 31-24 game but that was as close as they got. Cardinals Head Coach David Dunn evened his team’s 2014 record at 1-1 with this 31-24 win.  

Widener PrideTAKING PRIDE IN A WIN – The WIDENER UNIVERSITY PRIDE were on the road against the WILLIAMSON TRADE SCHOOL MECHANICS this weekend. The Pride scored on their first possession and led 10-6 by the end of the 1st Quarter. At the 9:57 mark of the 4th Quarter everything stood at 24-12 with the Mechanics trailing when QB Joe Keyes connected with WR Nick Isola for a 70 yard Touchdown reception for Widener University. That ended the scoring, sending the Pride home with a 31-12 victory.     

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

delta stateBATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS – Another season, another bruising collision between those Gulf South Conference rivals the (16) DELTA STATE STATESMEN and the (14) VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS. Statesmen QB Tyler Sullivan led his team to a 21-6 1st Quarter lead, but in typical style with these two teams the Blazers trailed by just 28-26 by Halftime. The visiting Statesmen regained control of the game in the 2nd Half and ultimately pulled off the upset in the rankings by a final score of 49-32.   

Sioux FallsOTHER TOP 25 UPSETS – The UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS made another argument that they should be ranked by toppling another Top 25 team. Yesterday the Cougars hosted the (17) ST CLOUD STATE HUSKIES and sent them home reeling from a THIRTY-SIX to NOTHING shutout.     ###      The (23) EMPORIA STATE HORNETS fell at home to the unranked CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BRONCHOS 24-14     ###      And the FLORIDA TECH PANTHERS continue to impress in this 2nd year of their football program. Yesterday they upset the (15) TARLETON STATE TEXANS 37-31 in their own house.  

Cal PA“FASCINATING” – The CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS picked up a road win in conference play on Saturday. The Vulcans (named for the Roman fire and forge god Vulcan) traveled to face the SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY RED RAIDERS on their home turf. Cal-PA went back home with a victory after a masterful 56-34 game. Vulcans QB James Harris had a spec-TACULAR afternoon, passing for 439 yards, 2 Touchdowns and NO interceptions. Harris was just 4 yards short of tying the school record for passing yards. 

IUP Crimson HawksBATTLE OF THE BIRDS – The INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS took it on the road to face the LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES. QB Chase Haslett led the Crimson Hawks to a 14-3 Halftime lead but after the break the Bald Eagles were trying to mount a comeback. The score stood at 21-10 after 3 Quarters of play and, though Lock Haven University shut out the Crimson Hawks in the 4th, IUP limited them to just 6 points, holding on for a 21-16 victory.   

HillsdaleAND MICHAEL MEDVED SMILES – I’ve long maintained the HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS should change their team name to the Golden Turkeys in honor of their alumnus Michael Medved, the film critic who started the Golden Turkey Awards. At any rate yesterday the Chargers hosted the NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. This was a defensive struggle as Muddy Waters Stadium witnessed a scoreless 1st Half of play. The Wildcats led 3-0 in the 3rd Quarter but after a furious 4th Quarter Hillsdale came out on top 13-10.    

* NCAA DIVISION THREE *

Simpson College Storm helmetTOP 25 UPSETS – There was only one upset in D3’s Top 25 rankings yesterday. The unranked SIMPSON COLLEGE STORM welcomed the number 21 ILLINOIS WESLEYAN TITANS. Points were scarce in this game at Buxton Stadium, as a 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Storm remained unchanged at Halftime. Simpson College added 3 more points each in the 3rd and 4th Quarters while the Titans managed just a 4th Quarter field goal as the Storm won 13-3.

John Carroll Blue Streaks helmetWHEN RANKED TEAMS COLLIDE – The (10) JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS took on the visiting (16) HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRINCES. Head Coach Tom Arth had his team up 10-0 in the 1st Quarter and 23-7 at the Half enroute to a 43-16 blowout.     ###      The (5) NORTH CENTRAL CARDINALS likewise clobbered the visiting (7) UW-PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS, quadrupling their offensive output 28-7.  

Hardin-Simmons CowboysOUR DIVISION CAN BEAT UP YOUR DIVISION – This week’s look at the gridiron rivalry between D3 and the NAIA. The D3 teams won both contests this time around. The HARDIN- SIMMONS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS were on the road against the NAIA’s WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY and led 21-14 at Halftime enroute to a 37-23 win.     ###      And the HOWARD PAYNE YELLOW JACKETS defeated the visiting SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS 38-25.    

Waynesburg Yellow Jackets helmetA DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The WAYNESBURG YELLOW JACKETS and their guests the GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES were knotted up at the end of Regulation and again after the first Overtime session. In Double Overtime the Yellow Jackets shut out Geneva then put up a TD for a 44-38 win.     ###      And the ROSE-HULMAN ENGINEERS went to Double OT with the homestanding HANOVER PANTHERS and came out on top 48-42.   

Massachusetts Maritime helmetTHE ADMIRAL’S CUP – No, not the Commodore’s Fork, the Admiral’s Cup. Each year the MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME BUCCANEERS and the MAINE MARITIME MARINERS play for that trophy and yesterday marked the 42nd Edition. The Buccaneers trailed the Mariners 12-0 at the break but had an explosive 3rd Quarter to tie the game at 20-20. That was still the score at the end of Regulation and following the 1st Overtime session. In DOUBLE OVERTIME Mass Maritime at last emerged with a 26-20 victory.     

Christopher Newport CaptainsGETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – On Thursday night Head Coach Matt Kelchner took his CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS to Rocky Mount, NC to face the NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN BATTLING BISHOPS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Captains seized a 21-7 lead by Halftime. The Battling Bishops trailed by just 24-21 as the 4th Quarter started but CNU was able to hold on for a 31-28 win. ###      And on Friday night the FRAMINGHAM STATE RAMS likewise held off a 2nd Half rally, in their case from the FITCHBURG STATE FALCONS, who trailed the Rams 23-12 at the break but came roaring back. In the end the Rams went home with a 29-26 victory. 

* NJCAA *

Southwest Mississippi Bears helmetTOP 10 UPSETS – This past weekend there was only one upset in the NJCAA rankings. The 9th ranked COPIAH- LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK continue to watch their hopes for a big season go bust. Thursday night they suffered another conference loss – this one to the unranked SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE BEARS. The homestanding Bears had what it takes to pull off the upset and ended the evening with a 45-35 victory. 

Hutchinson Blue DragonsFIRE BEATS WATER – The (5) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS hosted the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS yesterday and tripled up on them. A 14-0 1st Quarter lead for the Blue Dragons was 21-7 by the break and 42-7 to end the 3rd Quarter. The Tritons added a Touchdown in the 4th to make the final score 42-14. Hutchinson RB Alvin Kamara ran for 180 yards and FOUR TD’s, while QB Kylen Binn threw for 149 yards and 2 TD’s.  

ASA CollegeTRAVELING AVENGERS – The ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS traveled to take on the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS in an Empire State showdown. The Avengers found themselves caught up in more of a fight than the prognosticators thought they would get. The Mustangs made this contest a true game for the ages but when all the dust had settled Head Coach Dennis Orlando had kept his Avengers in control and navigated them to a 24-21 win.  

Vermilion College Ironmen helmetVIVA VERMILION – The VERMILION COLLEGE IRONMEN likewise came up with a road win. Unlike the Avengers, however, the Ironmen dominated in every way and sent a message to detractors who were writing them off for the season. Vermilion paid a visit to the MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE and completely shocked the home crowd. When the Ironmen were done unleashing their wrath the final score stood at THIRTY-SIX to NOTHING! 

Lackawanna College Falcons helmetOTHER SHUTOUTS – Saturday saw a pair of other shutouts in the NJCAA. First off the LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS hosted the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. The Falcons blew away the Hurricanes on both sides of the ball and walked away with a THIRTY-THREE to NOTHING victory.     ###      And the storied BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS took on the visiting ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES later in the day and mangled them to the tune of EIGHTY to NOTHING!

Central Lakes Brainerd Raiders

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE AT BRAINERD RAIDERS managed to edge the visiting FOND DU LAC TRIBAL COLLEGE THUNDER in a 35-32 squeaker     ###      The  SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS meanwhile won on the road, in their case over the GLENDALE (AZ) GAUCHOS by a score of 21-19     ###      And the DAKOTA COLLEGE AT BOTTINEAU LUMBERJACKS did their bit for road teams as well, eking out a 17-13 victory over the ITASCA COLLEGE VIKINGS.  

Butler (KS) GrizzliesABSOLUTE SLAUGHTERS – The BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES decimated their guests the FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS in a thoroughly one-sided 63-7 battle.     ###      Meanwhile the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS played Road Warriors and manhandled the TEXAS A&T SPARTANS by a final tally of 62-14.     ###      And the GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS kept their series of blowouts going by dismembering the MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE KNIGHTS  59-3.

Grossmont GriffinsNUMBER ONE LOSES ON THE ROAD – For the second week in a row the top ranked team took a tumble! The (1) RIVERSIDE COLLEGE TIGERS traveled to take on the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS, who led 21-7 after 1 Quarter of play! That became a 35-14 advantage by Haltime and the Griffins just coasted from there to a 38-28 triumph. Grossmont College QB Michael Carillo went 16 of 33 for 237 yards and 3 Touchdowns in the win.  

Fullerton College HornetsOTHER TOP TEN UPSETS – The 11th ranked FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS welcomed the number 6 CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS to Nathan Shapell Stadium. After trailing 14-10 at the Half the Hornets rose up in the 2nd Half and won the game 24-21.     ###      And the ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS battled the visiting 10th ranked CHAFFEY COLLEGE PANTHERS in a game for the ages. The Bulldogs had a 10-7 Halftime edge but trailed 17-16 after 3 Quarters. A lively 4th Quarter performance gave AHC a 26-24 victory.

San Mateo BulldogsBATTLES OF RANKED TEAMS – The number 2 COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS added to the freefall of the 9th ranked defending champions – the BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS. The Bulldogs handed the Roadrunners their second loss in a row, clobbering them 51-6.     ###      And the 3rd ranked CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS hosted the number 8 FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS and sent them home suffering from a 44-33 loss.  

Golden West College RustlersDON’T GET COCKY, KID! – The GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS were looking to bounce back from their loss last week and by the end of the 1st Quarter they led the visiting CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS 13-7. By the break that had expanded to a 27-14 advantage. After 3 Quarters of play the Owls had inched to a 30-22 score and in the 4th the Rustlers had to hold on for a 36-30 win. RB Zimari Manning ran for 193 yards and FIVE Touchdowns in the win.

Chabot CollegeCHABOT IN CHARGE – Yesterday the CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS traveled to face the FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS in Los Altos, CA. The Gladiators fell behind 10-0 by Halftime but sprang to life with a dynamic 3rd Quarter, by the end of which they led the Owls 20-10. The 4th Quarter saw even more offensive action and by the end of the game Chabot College had won by a score of 47-17. Gladiators QB Jose Ferreira went 13 of 22 for 226 yards and 3 TD’s. 

Feather River helmetPURE GOLD IN OVERTIME – The FEATHER RIVER COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES squared off against the DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS on Saturday. This was a true Instant Classic as the teams matched each other score for score. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 21-21 Halftime tie which became a 35-35 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session the Golden Eagles shut out the Dons and then managed a Touchdown of their own to emerge with a 41-35 triumph in this home stand. 

Hartnell College Panthers helmetTHOSE SEVENTIES GAMES – The HARTNELL COLLEGE PANTHERS tangled with the visiting MENDOCINO COLLEGE EAGLES and plucked all the feathers off them in a rout! The Panthers’ 42-24 Halftime lead turned into a 71-31 laugher.     ###      And the WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE WILDCATS handed a similar beatdown to their guests, the COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS. The Wildcats outdid Hartnell by putting up 77 points to the 32 scored by the Tartars.
