A LOOK AT SOME RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 8TH’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES

THEY’RE LUMBERJACKS AND THEY’RE OKAY – D2’s Humboldt State Lumberjacks played in the game of the night last night, emerging with a 38-36 victory. The ‘Jacks brought down the Central Washington Wildcats, the reigning champs of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the past five years in a row. This was the kind of game football fans live for, and it was televised nationwide on the cable outlet called CBS College Sports. Viewers not only got to see a terrific game but also got to see Humboldt State’s  fantastic stadium, the Redwood Bowl, which was featured during the summer as one of  Balladeer’s Blog’s Top 6 College Football Stadiums in Division 2.

BLAZING A BIZARRE TRAIL – The Valdosta State Blazers suffered through a very strange game from their offense but the defense and special teams picked up the slack, enabling VSU to defeat the Newberry Wolves 24-17. The Blazers’ first 14 points came from a Newberry fumble immediately returned for a touchdown and from a punt return for a td as well. The Blazers need to get their act together quickly if they plan to win what’s left of the Gulf South Conference this year.

ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The Washburn Ichabods  completely dismembered the Lincoln (MO) Blue Tigers in a 66-26 laugher. The Ichabods won their bowl matchup last December and are itching to dethrone the now-Tjeerdsma-less Northwest Missouri Bearcats as MIAA champs.   

THE FOOTBALL GODS SMILE EVERY TIME A TEAM CALLED EAGLES LOSES – Ditto for teams called Tigers, Bulldogs and Wildcats, since those are the most overused team names in college sports. The East Mississippi Lions inspired a divine smile last night with their tight 20-17 win over the Hinds Eagles in an Instant Classic … Another result from last night that fits this category was the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves’ 47-14 beatdown of the Holmes Bulldogs.
