With the colleges and universities I cover all pretty much on summer break right now I figured I’d temporarily replace my Cool-Named Team feature with Cool-Named (but non-existent) Sports Teams based on bad movies. These could become the new mascots for teams that currently have one of the four most overused nicknames in college sports – namely Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs and Wildcats. At least it would give us a laugh.

Comment: The 1953 flick Robot Monster is a staple on everybody’s Worst Movies Of All Time lists. A race of monsters who are part robot and part gorilla wipe out all mankind except for one family and their obnoxious friend. The same laughably cheap costume -a gorilla suit topped by a diving helmet with antennae attached – is used to represent every member of the race, including the army emerging from a cave in my beloved Bronson Canyon at the very end of the movie. The Robot Monsters as a team name has a kind of Nittany Lions or Gothic Knights feel to it.

Dear Hu man, I just finnished watching it. It was great! So many one liners but the best was that last scene repeated 3 times for effect at the end. Lots of humor in this one.
