NUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – The number 2 team in the nation – the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (Should be the Rottweilers) – traveled to face the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS. The Wildcats put the Eagles on Upset Alert early on by seizing a 21-7 1st Quarter lead.
By Halftime Reinhardt University had pulled to within 24-21, calming their fans for a time. After the break Bethel University’s Defense stepped up big, shutting out the Eagles the entire 2nd Half while adding 7 more points of their own for a 31-21 shocker.
CRUSADE IN MISSOURI – The EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS also knocked off a ranked visitor last night. They welcomed the 22nd ranked SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS and made their own case to be ranked. The Crusaders led the Lions 7-0 after 1 Quarter of play, then 21-3 at the Half. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by an action-packed 4th to make the final score Evangel U 28 SAGU 9.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH – The number 20 ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS hosted the CARROLL (MT) COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS last night. After a scoreless opening Quarter the Battlin’ Bears took a 13-0 lead into the locker room at Halftime. Rocky Mountain College made it a 19-0 game to end the 3rd Quarter while the Defenses shone in the 4th to make 19-zip the final score as well.
KEISER WINS THEIR INAUGURAL GAME – Four Quarters weren’t enough for the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS and their hosts, the UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS. The Seahawks were playing in their very first intercollegiate football game EVER. It was almost all Defense in the 1st Half, with the Bears mustering a mere 3-0 edge. Keiser U trailed 9-3 after 3 Quarters of play but forced Overtime with a 17-17 tie to end Regulation. In OT the Seahawks put up 7 points then shut out Pikeville for a 24-17 entry into their brand-new record books.
THE COMMERCE CUP – The number 25 DAKOTA STATE TROJANS did battle with the homestanding DAKOTA WESLEYAN TIGERS (Should be the Blue Tigers) in their 2nd Annual Battle for the Chamber of Commerce Cup. The Trojans led the game 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but just 7-6 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Dakota State up 20-6 on the Tigers before going on to win the game 27-18.
BULLDOG BLOWOUT – The UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS welcomed the CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES (Should be the Bridgers). The Bulldogs proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate Cincinnati Christian, leading them 26-0, 40-7 and 46-7 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. Neither team scored in the 4th, making 46-7 the final tally as well.
SCORCHING THE PANTHERS – The storied HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS played host to the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS last night. A 7-3 Blue Dragons lead in the 1st Quarter became a 16-9 Halftime advantage. The Panthers pulled to within 16-12 to end the 3rd Quarter but in the 4th Hutchinson College simply pressed down on the accelerator to wind up with a 30-12 victory.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – In a case of Bulldog on Bulldog violence the number 18 NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS welcomed the 15th ranked GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. In what may have been the best game of the night Navarro College led 14-6 after 1 Quarter of play but Georgia Military College trailed by just 21-20 at the Half. In the end Navarro held on by their fingertips to win it 31-29.
THE REIVERS: WASN’T THAT A TIME! – The 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS took it on the road against the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Reivers went on top of the Red Ravens 10-0 by the break. In the 2nd Half Iowa Western College outscored Coffeyville College 9-6 to go back home boasting a 19-6 triumph.
PIRATES RAID DODGE CITY – The number 5 team in the nation – the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES – traveled to take on the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS. The Pirates converted a 10-7 1st Quarter edge into a 24-10 Halftime lead. The 3rd Quarter ended with Independence College on top 38-10 but Dodge City College fought back in the 4th to make the final score Pirates 38 Conquistadors 20.
